Top Dolla might have planted seeds for the start of a heel turn in WWE. During Friday's episode of SmackDown, the big man didn't take too kindly to Ricochet poking fun at the former's attempt to jump over the top rope on a recent episode of SmackDown, only to miss completely and go viral among the fans who wondered why the heavy in Hit Row would try such a move.
Dolla was going for an over-the-top splash when he claims his leg gave out during a No. 1 contenders match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. It was an awkward moment when Michael Cole called out on live television and said something to the effect of 'that's why he doesn't try that move very often.' Tol Dolla wasn't injured and the team went on to win the match, but the discussion about the botch hadn't quieted. WWE seems to have used that as the narrative for a potential heel turn for the group.
On Friday's final SmackDown episode of 2022, a number of wrestlers were backstage having a little fun at Top Dolla's expense. New Day was holding a broom at about knee height and asked if this was low enough for him to jump over. Top Dolla played along and said the last time he tried to jump a broom it didn't work either. Maximum Male Models got in on the jokes, as did Madcap Moss, all of whom had puns they were throwing out there. He took it all in stride until Ricochet got in on the act and said Top Dolla's mess up makes him look good because he makes flying around look so easy. He then shoved Ricochet and said, "Do I look like a punchline to you?"
Hit Row then left and a qualifying match for the Royal Rumble was set up for next week on SmackDown between the two.
Are Hit Row Turning Heel?
This isn't a guarantee that the group is going heel, but the backstage segment seems to hint that this might be the direction WWE is headed with Hit Row. It might make sense too considering the trio hasn't quite made the splash on the main roster WWE was probably hoping they would. Perhaps a bit of a shakeup might be good for the group.
