WWE Hall of Famer and father of The Rock, Rocky Johnson has passed away at the age of 75.

Although the wrestling business is a difficult one to break into, there are a couple of ways in which aspiring wrestlers can do so. One way a fair few future stars break into the business is via a family member. Those wrestlers are often accused of having it easy, but those accusers couldn't be more wrong. While having family in the business can get someone's foot in the door, the pressure on them to succeed from then on is immense.

One man who thrived under that pressure passed away today. The great Rocky Johnson. Johnson married the daughter of High Chief Peter Maivia, bringing two wrestling families together. The Cauliflower Alley Club broke the news of Johnson's passing early on Thursday evening. Johnson was 75 years old, and the cause of his death is unknown at this time.

Johnson and his wife Ata carried on their families' wrestling legacies when they brought Dwayne Johnson into the world, who would later become The Rock. At the time of typing this, Rock has not reacted publicly to the death of his father. Tributes from others from all corners of the wrestling business have already started to pour in via social media, though.

Johnson leaves behind a far bigger legacy than marrying into a wrestling family and fathering a third-generation Superstar, though. He started his wrestling career during the early 60s with the NWA. From there he wrestled for numerous territories all over the United States. Johnson would arrive in WWE in 1982 where he and Tony Atlas would go on to become the promotion's first-ever black Tag Team Champions.

Jonson's accolades with WWE and across the wrestling business as a whole proved more than enough to earn him a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Rock inducted his father and his grandfather into the HOF at the same time as a part of the 2008 class. One of the last things Johnson did before passing away was write and publish his autobiography The Soul Man Rocky Johnson which was released in December 2019.
