There's no doubt that wrestling fans love mysteries. Adding the surprise element to a storyline can make it more intriguing, but it all comes down to the reveal in the end. If the reveal disappoints the fans, the entire angle flops. This has happened several times in WWE.

The Higher Power storyline, for instance, had everyone talking about it. But when it was revealed as Vince McMahon, people were disappointed. Perhaps the only thing worse than a disappointing mystery storyline is one where the mystery was never solved. The following are some examples of such angles.
10 Shane McMahon's Lockbox
The mysterious lockbox Shane McMahon used to blackmail his father led to a WrestleMania match between him and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. WWE didn’t have an opponent in mind for The Undertaker that year, and they wanted to do something special for him, so they chose Shane. Both of them tussled it out inside Hell in a Cell at the Shows of Shows. Shane lost as expected, and the contents of the lockbox were never revealed to the public.
9 Why Did The Ninjas Kidnap Samoa Joe?
Back in 2010, Samoa Joe got kidnapped by a bunch of ninjas in TNA. This was one of the most idiotic ideas in TNA history, and just like many other flopped storylines, Vince Russo was to blame. Though he says it was Eric Bischoff’s idea. The storyline was supposed to end with Joe returning as a psychopath. The kidnapping would then be revealed as Jimmy Snuka’s idea. But according to Russo, Bischoff couldn’t get Snuka in the company, so the storyline was dropped.
8 What Would've Happened If Vince McMahon Had Stayed Dead?
Vince McMahon has done some crazy things in WWE, so it doesn’t sound shocking that he once blew himself up too. He didn’t die obviously, but the fans weren’t supposed to know that. Most people think it was a dumb idea that shouldn't have happened. It was hard to believe McMahon could die on live television, but at least Donald Trump believed it. The whole explosion storyline ended within weeks after a real-life tragedy ensued. McMahon was forced to come on television and admit that he faked his death.
7 Who Was Behind GTV?
Another one of Vince Russo’s ideas was GTV. As part of this storyline, black and white footage of wrestlers in compromising situations was shown on television. GTV was initially labeled as GDTV, but it was changed after a week or two. Goldust was supposed to be revealed as the man behind GTV. But before that could happen, Goldust left WWE for WCW. The GTV angle still continued, but one day the storyline was dropped and the identity of its mastermind never got revealed.
6 Who Pied Kevin Owens?
On an episode of Raw in 2016, a backstage food fight occurred. Kevin Owens managed to hide under the table, and when he thought it was finally over, someone threw a pie at him.

This is probably the biggest mystery in modern wrestling, and fans still don't know the identity of the culprit. But perhaps the bigger mystery should be how WWE cameras captured this moment from Owens’ point of view.
5 The Hummer Storyline
Back in 1999, Kevin Nash and Randy Savage were feuding. One time, Savage ordered his female entourage to lure Nash into a limo. This was a trap and moments later, a white Hummer hit the limo and injured Nash. The mysterious driver was Savage’s bodyguard, and he was supposed to debut at Road Wild. But he never showed up, and his identity didn't get revealed. Something similar happened with Hulk Hogan a year later but this time, Eric Bischoff was the driver. On his podcast, though, Bischoff said that there were no plans to reveal the identity of the mystery driver.
4 Who Attacked Kenta?
At NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, Finn Balor, Kenta (Hideo Itami), and Tyler Breeze were supposed to have a match to determine the next number one contender to the NXT Championship. But before the event, Kenta was attacked in the NXT parking lot. This was a storyline to cover up his real-life shoulder injury. Kenta returned to the ring a year later, and his attacker was never revealed. Although, many fans believe it was Owens who attacked him.
3 What Was CM Punk About To Reveal During His Pipebomb?
There’s no doubt that CM Punk’s pipebomb was one of the best promos in wrestling history. Punk talked about a lot of things during his promo and right when he was about to tell a story about Vince McMahon and WWE’s anti-bullying campaign, his microphone got cut off.

2 Who Helped The McMahons Win At King Of The Ring 1999?
At King of the Ring 199, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin faced Vince and Shane McMahon in a handicap ladder match with WWE’s full control at stake. Austin almost won this match but then, the briefcase was raised by someone. In the end, The McMahons were able to secure a victory and regain the WWE's full ownership. It was never revealed who raised the briefcase on the show. Although, most fans believe that it was Big Boss Man's work since he was kicked out of The Corporation.
1 Who Attacked Edge At No Way Out 2003?
At No Way Out 2003, Edge was supposed to team up with Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit to take on Team Angle in a six-man tag team match. On the show, someone attacked Edge backstage and took him out of the match. To this day, Edge doesn't know who attacked him at No Way Out that night. This incident was quickly forgotten and WWE could've resumed this angle when Edge returned a year later, but they chose not to.
