Reports surfaced Tuesday that the real reason Charlotte won the NXT Women's Championship was because of Rhea Ripley's status in WWE.

According to a report by PWInsider, Ripley's travel visa has expired and she was returned home to Australia following her tapings for WrestleMania. Speculation was, that because Ripley was going to be absent from television for some time and because WWE is rumored to be trying to tape as many episodes of all their brands over the next few days, not having Ripley available to defend her title was problematic.

Mike Johnson added that “there is no known timetable for her return” due to the circumstances with the Coronavirus.

Word started to spread that if this was an accurate report, Flair did not win the NXT Women’s Championship because of failing ratings up against AEW Dynamite. It wasn't because of a storyline or because Charlotte would add some legitimacy to the Women's Division in NXT. The decisions was made simply over travel issues with the current champion.

An update on Wednesday noted that these rumors were bogus.

Ripley took to social media and wrote, "Yo wrestling world... still in America...,"  She posted a video that shows her home in Orlando with her boyfriend and pets present.

With the updated news, it seems likely that Ripley will not be off of NXT programming and that she may have another run with Charlotte since their match at WrestleMania was so well received.

What's The Plan For Charlotte?

Ripley still being in the U.S. and Charlotte having been given the title also suggests that she may have won it to help with ratings on Wednesdays. In speaking with Arda Ocal of ESPN, Charlotte has said she wants to work everywhere, including staying a part of the Raw roster. That means, if WWE will let her, she'd like to work the NXT brand and defend the title on any show.

This might be possible considering the tapings for all three shows are likely going to happen out of the same building.
