Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are two names who are synonymous with one another, with the pair having a rich history during their time in WWE. Over the years, the pair have faced each other several times, with most of those coming on TV. In terms of singles matches, they have battled twice on PPV, but given how their last match ended, this is a feud that WWE needs to go back to. Another match or multiple matches are needed within a feud between Reigns and Rollins, otherwise, it will be a huge missed opportunity if WWE doesn’t book it.
Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Have A Long History, But Few Matches
Back in 2012, Reigns and Rollins made their main roster debuts side by side as part of The Shield, becoming one of the most popular stables in history. From there, they had several classics as teammates, before Rollins turned his back on his former brothers, joining The Authority and turning heel, making him and Reigns enemies. When it comes to a fully-fledged feud between the pair, it isn’t something that has truly happened, at least not in the way in which the likes of Rock vs Steve Austin, Edge vs John Cena, and Batista vs Triple H did.

The duo wrestled a few times on Raw, but their first PPV interaction as opponents came at WrestleMania 31 when Seth Rollins cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase and stole the WWE Championship from the main event of the show. On paper, this should have set up a feud between Reigns and Rollins, but they were kept apart. It would have been likely that they were due to face each other at the following year’s WrestleMania, but Rollins was ruled out with injury.
It would take until Money in the Bank in 2016 for the two to go one-on-one on PPV, with a WWE Championship match that had a big fight feel to it. Rollins defeated Reigns clean to become champion, but his moment was stolen by yet another MITB cash-in. Since then, just one other match between the two has taken place on a major show, with that coming just this past year at the 2022 Royal Rumble, but the result of that match alone is reason enough to have a rematch.
Their Match At Royal Rumble 2022 Has Left Unfinished Business
In the build-up to their Royal Rumble clash, much of their history was brought up, with Rollins goading Reigns for the fact that when it comes to the big matches, he can’t defeat Rollins. By this point, Reigns’ run as Universal Champion was in full swing, with it being one of the most dominant stints in a long time for any superstar in WWE – but when it came to Rollins, Reigns was clearly shaken and unsure of himself.

The mind games were working a treat, even up to the match itself when Rollins would make his entrance to The Shield’s music and wearing the group’s attire. The match itself was great, with their chemistry being on show once again, but before it got into third gear, Reigns got himself disqualified. He would beat down Rollins with a steel chair, which was reminiscent of the way Rollins turned on The Shield. It was an annoying finish, but it seemed clear to set up the next chapter. However, that chapter has yet to come, leaving a big gaping hole when it comes to their rivalry.
Reigns & Rollins Need To Have A Proper Feud In WWE
Reigns has still yet to defeat Rollins in a big PPV match, and at a time when challengers are running out for Reigns, this would be a great option to create a championship match full of intrigue and suspense. Reigns’ desperation to not lose to Rollins was the perfect launching pad to continue their rivalry, but WWE did not go in that direction. Reigns Vs Rollins had the potential to be an all-time rivalry, and perhaps it still could, but time is certainly running out for that to happen.

These two men always put on a good show, and for a company that is obsessed with rematches, it is baffling that they haven’t done battle more. They could easily have more matches against one another, even inside the likes of Hell in a Cell, with the story already in place to build a blood feud. Even if Reigns loses the title soon, this could be a major non-title rivalry between two men who deserve to have a series of matches against each other at some point soon. It would be a big mistake if WWE didn’t return to this feud, with their latest chapter not even being finished yet.
