In an interview, Islam reacted to Arman Tsarukyan’s knockout of Beniel Dariush and stated that he was impressed. However, the UFC champ said that the Armenian star will need one more solid win for a title shot.
When asked whether he would rather fight Charles Oliveria or Tsarukyan, Islam said he was not interested in rematches and wants to test himself against a new opponent.
To be honest, I’ve already told [UFC] I’m not interested in rematches,” Makhachev said, continuing: “Because if you want to win someone in a good way, you have to add new names. There is [Justin] Gaethje, who I would say deserved a fight. I think it would be more interesting to fight him.”
As standard with the UFC, the champ doesn't have much say in who he fights next. However, with so many potential contenders, it's unclear whether the organization will stick to it's plan of having Oliveria getting the next title shot.
