Love is a many splendored thing, especially when it's born in the pro wrestling industry. Throughout history, there have been dozens of wrestling love stories, both off-screen and on-screen. Undoubtedly, the quintessential wrestling romance is the dramatic saga between "The Macho Man" Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. The dense romantic relationship between these two icons started off-screen but became an integral narrative of the WWE's golden era.

Randy Savage And Miss Elizabeth's First Encounter
Randall Mario Poffo, better known as Randy Savage, strode into the nearby gym and was suddenly stopped by the vision in front of him. There she was. Elizabeth Anne Hulette was working the front desk. As Savage removed his sunglasses, Elizabeth gasped and exclaimed, "Oh my, your eyes are so red." Randy replied, "You oughta see them from this side." Certainly not the most romantic opening line, but, miraculously, it was enough to get Savage a date with Elizabeth.
The two lovebirds hit it off quickly and soon became inseparable. At the time, Randy was working for the Continental Wrestling Association. CWA being the mom-and-pop operation it was, the Macho Man convinced the company that Elizabeth would make a great addition to the team. He was right. Elizabeth's talents were displayed early, and the CWA found her to be a versatile asset. Not only did she do an excellent job as a backstage correspondent and announcer, but she was also involved in the editing.
With a passion for each other and the wrestling business, Randy and Elizabeth decided to take their relationship to the next level. In Frankfurt, Kentucky, the two were married at Elizabeth's mother's house. Six months later, the couple would take their relationship to the next level in an entirely different way.
Randy Savage & Elizabeth Become Stars In WWE
When Randy got the call from Vince McMahon's national wrestling promotion, he knew his life was about to change. When they introduced the "Macho Man" Randy Savage character, he didn't connect with audiences at first. When McMahon suggested a female escort to accompany the future star, Savage saw the opportunity to bring his talented wife to the WWE.
Immediately, the pair created an iconic on-screen duo. The Macho Man portrayed a domineering control freak, while his partner, Elizabeth, represented as a timid, classy angel. The dynamic was brilliant.

WWE picked up on this shift in energy, and the once-hated heel transformed into a lovable babyface. As faces, Randy and Elizabeth climbed even greater heights and popularity.
Randy Savage & Elizabeth Helped Propel Each Other's WWE Careers
The romantic saga of Randy Savage and Elizabeth elevated both to superstardom. It's hard to imagine that Randy's heel persona would have hit as hard without Elizabeth there to eat his fire. The duo reached new heights when Randy's intensity morphed into babyface energy. Soon after that character shift, Randy Savage became the WWE Champion.
Perhaps Savage's most memorable feud was with his former partner, Hulk Hogan. When the Mega Powers split, Elizabeth was at the center of the rivalry. The emotional turmoil in the first lady of wrestling made the WrestleMania 5 main event click.
Finally, when Randy Savage and Elizabeth reunited at WrestleMania 7, wrestling fans in attendance and at home shed tears of joy. The prospect of true love reigning supreme hit the WWE fans square in the heart. There hasn't been an on-screen relationship to elicit that emotion, before or since.
Years later, of course, their real-life marriage would end. Worse, Elizabeth's life came to a tragic and early conclusion in 2003. However, no one can deny the legacy that "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth left, not only on each other's lives and careers but on the pro wrestling industry. Their masterful performances and storytelling were must-see TV. The flame of their love may have gone out, but there's still hard evidence of it in their work.
