CM Punk suffered his first AEW defeat at the hands of the dastardly MJF and his stooge Wardlow in the main event of this week's AEW Dynamite.
It all went down at the Wintrust Arena in Punk's hometown of Chicago, Illinois, on Wednesday, February 2. After weeks of doing battle on the mic, Punk and MJF finally went one-on-one in the ring in a Dynamite main event that started 15 minutes past the hour -- so fans could tell they were in for the long haul.
The match itself did not disappoint and was most certainly pay-per-view worthy. MJF doesn't wrestle as often as some of his peers, but he looked as sharp as ever. Of course, it helped that he was in the ring with one of the greatest of all time, who was on top form. This was easily Punk's best match since he returned to the ring last year following a seven-year hiatus, and he made MJF look like an absolute megastar.

After a false finish that involved referee Bryce Remsburg discovering that MJF had used a foreign object to choke Punk out, the match resumed. The two men exchanged momentum, but Punk's experience gave him the upper hand heading into the closing moments ... but then Wardlow arrived at ringside.
In a perfectly executed swerve, Wardlow appeared to signify that he was done with MJF and wanted Punk to finish him off. But it was all a ruse, and Wardlow sneakily handed MJF the Dynamite Diamond Ring, which MJF then used to clean Punk's clock while Remsburg was distracted by Wardlow's presence. MJF then covered Punk for the 1-2-3, much to the chagrin of the Chicago crowd.
Punk's last singles defeat occurred on an episode of Raw in January 2014 when he lost to a young upstart by the name of Roman Reigns. Whatever happened to that guy?
