The role of the female bodyguard can play a huge part in helping multiple careers. Bodyguard gimmicks usually will see the talent involved getting themselves over, while also elevating the talent they represent. Female bodyguard characters typically represented other women, but a few instances did see the women enforcing the male wrestlers. Each story is different with some succeeding more than others. The following female bodyguards spent time trying to perfect the enforcer from the other side of things.
8 Asya
WCW did a bad job of trying to keep up with WWE in 2000 when the ratings war saw a bigger gap. Vince Russo joining WCW as the new lead writer saw him coming up with a few polarizing gimmicks that felt like cheap rip offs or parodies towards WWE.

Asya was the character booked to be WCW’s version of Chyna, with the joke of Asya being bigger than Chyna. WCW placed Asya in The Revolution faction, but the gimmick itself flopped from day one. Asya didn’t take to wrestling the same way as Chyna and flopped.
7 Nicole Bass
WWE hired Nicole Bass after her appearances on The Howard Stern Show to be the bodyguard of Sable. The new heel character of Sable was thriving after her Playboy photo shoot and winning the WWE Women’s Championship.
Bass debuted at WrestleMania 15 to help Sable retain the title against Tori. WWE utilized the two together for a short run before both left the company for their own reasons. ECW also booked Bass as a bodyguard for Justin Credible on a couple of shows.
6 Jamie Hayter
AEW recently added Jamie Hayter back to the roster for a bodyguard role with Britt Baker. The women’s division of AEW saw Baker becoming the top star and leader in 2020. AEW decided to have another talent added to Britt along with her sidekick Rebel.
Hayter is a talented performer and seems to be a good fit with Britt moving forward. The run is too early to tell how high her ceiling is in this role, but Hayter is certainly one of the best all-around performers to have a bodyguard role.
5 Jazz
ECW found success with Jazz when introducing her as a woman who could get the better of the male wrestlers. Jazz’s biggest run in ECW came as part of the Impact Players tag team and faction featuring Lance Storm and Justin Credible as the wrestlers.
Jason Knight, Dawn Marie and Jazz all had different roles helping Storm and Credible during their matches. Jazz showed her potential in the enforcer role to get her name established in wrestling. WWE eventually pushed Jazz in a top heel role a few years later, and the ECW run played a role in that.
4 Raquel Gonzalez
The recent success of Raquel Gonzalez showed just how much a bodyguard character can achieve. NXT found chemistry between Gonzalez and Dakota Kai when Kai turned heel and needed a way to get heat from the viewers.

Kai and Gonzalez were among the best acts in NXT. Fans were a bit surprised when Raquel received a bigger push than Dakota by ending Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship reign. Gonzalez getting over as a bodyguard and winning a title before the wrestler she protected mirrored the Diesel and Shawn Michaels story.
3 Awesome Kong
One of the underrated early big moments for AEW came at their first show of Double or Nothing 2019. Awesome Kong made a shocking debut replacing Brandi Rhodes in a fatal four-way match against original talents Britt Baker, Kylie Rae and Nyla Rose.
Brandi introduced Kong as a fellow heel that was doing her bidding. Kong seemed to shine in the early glimpses of AEW’s first shows. The heel promos of Rhodes would see Kong backing her up as the perfect bodyguard character. This angle didn’t run as long as expected due to Kong working on the GLOW series and both parties going their separate ways.
2 Tamina
WWE primarily used Tamina in the bodyguard role for multiple wrestlers, with great success. Tamina has always been loved by WWE management due to her second-generation status as Jimmy Snuka’s daughter and ability to adapt to whatever they need.
AJ Lee taking off with Tamina as her bodyguard helped Lee have a historic Divas Championship reign. Tamina’s greatest success in the role was thriving with other talents. Naomi and Lana each found chemistry Tamina as their enforcer. The commitment to the role helped Tamina remain in WWE’s women’s division for many years now.
1 Chyna
The female bodyguard role was perfected by Chyna when she joined WWE. Triple H had trained with Chyna and dated her when pitching the idea of bringing her to WWE. Chyna instantly improved Triple H’s first heel character as Hunter Hearst Helmsley by getting involved in matches.
The visual of Chyna rag dolling Terri Runnels put Triple H and Goldust’s feud over the top. Chyna continued to improve as a performer and became a massive part of the Attitude Era’s success. WWE loved the work of Chyna enough to make her the first woman to get pushed in matches and feuds against male wrestlers.
