WWE NXT superstar Roderick Strong has reportedly requested his release from the company.

According to a report from Fightful Select (h/t WrestlingNews.co), the 38-year-old Strong has asked to be let go from his WWE contract. It was noted that Strong has actually asked to be released on several occasions in recent months, but there's no indicator at this time that WWE will actually grant his wish.

The report from Fightful also claimed that Strong was against the idea of a name change, and that some in WWE were surprised he wasn't included in the latest series of NXT cuts. Malcolm Bivens, Dakota Kai, Draco Anthony and and Mila Malani were among the talents released from the company last week.

It's not uncommon these days for WWE superstars to seek their releases, but as we've seen in the past, Vince McMahon and company aren't always willing to grant those requests. Back in January, it was reported that Mustafa Ali requested his release, but WWE has kept him on the roster.

There were other instances of superstars like The Revival (2019) and Mike Kanellis (2019) asking to be let go, but those talents weren't released until 2020. Even if WWE ultimately decides to meet Strong's request, he may have to wait a while for it to actually happen.

Strong is one of the most accomplished superstars on the current NXT roster. He is a one-time NXT Cruiserweight Champion, a one-time North American Champion and a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion.

WWE Should Consider Pushing Roderick Strong Now

There's a case to be made that Strong would benefit from a move to the main roster. He has been with the NXT brand since 2016, and he deserves an opportunity on the main roster at some point. If WWE officials are keen on keeping Strong around, they should promote him to Raw or SmackDown.
