It has been another stellar year for WWE in terms of in-ring competition, with the standard rising yet again for the quality of wrestling. With 12 different PPVs taking place, WWE has put on some tremendous matches. From historic first-time moments to Hell in a Cell matches and everything in between, 2019 has seen it all. Of course, not every single match as been a complete hit, but for the most part, the standard has been very high from WWE.

The main event matches of WWE's PPVs are the crucial elements for each show. Needing to end the event in style, there is always pressure with these matches, and within this list, we will rank every main event from 2019.

12 Hell In A Cell

When it comes to the worst PPV main event of the year, it was Hell In A Cell that took the prize. The show saw Seth Rollins defend the Universal Championship against The Fiend, who was competing for the first time in a title match. However, this match was a complete mess.

From the horrendous red lighting blending with the red steel to how the finish was booked with a referee stoppage, WWE really messed this one up. Rollins hit The Fiend with everything he had, countless times over. Seemingly creating an invincible character, he simply couldn't be beaten until the referee ended the match for him.

11 Survivor Series

To say it was one of the biggest PPVs of the year, the Survivor Series main event was one of the weakest. WWE had built up the ladies well ahead of this, but when it came to the match itself something just felt off between them.

It didn't help that the fans had been burnt out in their support of Keith Lee in the previous match either. But this triple threat match was fairly sloppy and didn't quite click, which meant that the show ended on a very flat note.

10 Stomping Grounds

This match saw Seth Rollins defend his Universal Championship against Baron Corbin in a no disqualification bout, while Lacey Evans was the referee. It was Rollins' first real feud as the champion, and sadly it was a lackluster one.

The WWE Universe just didn't care for it, despite the groundwork that they put in during the build. The match itself was fine, but it certainly did feel a little like Raw match, which wasn't helped by Becky Lynch helping Rollins retain as WWE began to force the couple down the fans throats.

9 Money In The Bank

It seems strange having a Money in the Bank ladder match this low down on a list, as they usually are a highlight of WWE's calendar year. However, in 2019 WWE found a way to mess that up as well. The match itself was going fairly well and it was the usual ladder match that can be expected.

There were big bumps and plenty of tension, until Brock Lesnar, who wasn't even in the match appeared. Here, WWE opted to have the Beast win the match simply to set him up to become champion once again. This meant the entire match was a total waste of time, leaving everyone feeling frustrated.

8 Clash Of Champions

Once again, Seth Rollins headlined a PPV for Clash Of Champions and this time he collided with the Monster Amongst Men. Battling for the Universal Championship, this felt like a potential time for Braun Strowman to finally win the big one.

However, Rollins retained here with a trio of Stomps. But that wasn't why this isn't an amazing match, it's simply that there was nothing special here. It felt box standard and that should never be the case for a main event match.

7 Extreme Rules

WWE opted for a mixed tag team match to headline Extreme Rules, which was a fairly surprising decision. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch put both their titles on the line here to face Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans, and they put on a great match.

This was much better than what most had expected from them, even if the result was fairly obvious. However, this PPV ended was helped by the surprise return of Brock Lesnar, who cashed in his Money in the Bank to properly end the show.

6 TLC

The final PPV of the year saw the Kabuki Warriors defend their Women's Tag Team Championships against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a TLC match. And once again, the ladies went all out to try to steal the show.

Unfortunately, Kairi Sane suffered a bad concussion during this match, which did make things tough for them. However, regardless of her injury, all four women still put everything on the line with huge bumps and brilliant storytelling in what was a fun match.

5 WrestleMania 35

This was one of the most historic matches in wrestling history as the women finally got the chance to headline WrestleMania 35. With Becky Lynch being the hottest star in wrestling at the time, this triple threat had a huge fight feel about it beforehand.

While not everything went to plan during the match with Ronda Rousey's injury and the pinfall mistake, that didn't stop this being superb. The fans were firmly behind the match and the three ladies involved brought everything they had, closing WrestleMania in style.

4 Royal Rumble

You just can't go wrong with a Royal Rumble match, can you? This year the show was headlined by the men's Rumble match, which was won by Seth Rollins who was the man that the fans wanted to see win it.

With the usual surprise appearances, dream combinations, and unpredictability, the Rumble was a fantastic match. The entire PPV was incredible this year, and this match just ended the show perfectly.

3 Fast Lane

Fast Lane proved to be the final time that The Shield would headline a PPV as the Hounds of Justice proved why they're the best. The trio simply does not put on bad six-man tag matches, regardless of who they're facing and this proves it.

In this match, they defeated Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre, who were bringing the physicality. It was a brilliant six-man tag, and even though the storyline involved wasn't the most interesting, the match certainly made up for that.

2 SummerSlam

At WrestleMania, Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar collided in what was a very fast-paced opening match that was more of a segment than a match. But at SummerSlam, the fans finally got to see what they wanted from them.

A true main event bout that was fantastic from start to finish. Lesnar always works well with smaller talents and this once again reaffirmed that. With the Beast selling to perfection and Rollins bringing all the fire, they tore the house down and stole the show with a tremendous main event.

1 Elimination Chamber

The Elimination Chamber is always a very fun point of the year because the stipulation lends itself to a crazy match. But in 2019 WWE really did take it to another level with an amazing match for Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship. Kofi Mania was in full effect by this point and everyone was rooting for the New Day member.

The match built perfectly, eventually leaving just Bryan and Kofi who put on an amazing mini-singles match at the end. It almost seemed like WWE was ready to give Kof his moment as well, but in the end, Bryan managed to retain.
