Nikki Cross has disposed of the WWE 24/7 Title and the hint is that the championship might be gone forever. After defeating Dana Brooke in a singles match and winning the belt, Cross simply tossed (or attempted to) the title in a garbage bin, with no regard for the fact she was the new champion.
The 24/7 Championship was certainly a polarizing championship in WWE. Meant to be a belt that would be on the line at any given moment, the belt quickly became a comedy title with wrestlers winning the gold at all sorts of odd places. It was held by multiple people and made popular by R-Truth who won the gold some 50 times. That said, it was never a belt people took seriously and Dana Brooke became the champion in a melee of switches, rarely, if ever defending it. So, when the title was put on the line on Monday's Raw, it was a bit of a surprise. In fact, it was probably more of a surprise that the belt was defended than it was Cross throwing it away.
This might be Triple H's creative way of moving on with the title and saying goodbye to it forever. There has been no official word from the company that they are eliminating the championship, but it definitely appears that way. While another performer could theoretically come and pick it up, that seems unlikely considering the way this was all drawn up. And, even if they did, Cross would technically still be the champion, which she obviously has no desire to be.
Goodbye 24/7 Championship
While a ridiculous title, there were some fun moments with the belt and it got wrestlers like Drake Maverick and R-Truth over in a huge way. It will probably go down in history as one of WWE's incredibly bad ideas -- along with the likes of the Gobbledy Gooker and Bastion Booger -- but there were times the belt being defended anywhere and everywhere was mildly entertaining.
