It has been quite the few months in wrestling. Between Vince McMahon's retirement and the slew of significant injuries constantly changing plans on the fly, what was the biggest story in the business a little more than two months ago has largely been forgotten. That story being the loss of MJF to Wardlow and subsequent pipebomb-style promo on Dynamite a few days later.
No One Has Heard From MJF
MJF said some pretty intense stuff about his employers that night and continued to hammer home that he wants out of his contract so he can give WWE a whirl. That aforementioned loss to Wardlow happened on May 29, and the promo was June 1. Since then, we've heard nothing at all from MJF. In fact, it would appear nobody has.

That's according to a new report from Fightful Select (via Ewrestling.com). Apparently the last time anyone in AEW heard from MJF was on that night more than two months ago. That goes for Tony Khan, who MJF had some very scathing things to say about during that promo, and also those who claim to be close to the holder of the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
Is It All A Work?
All of that being said, what still isn't clear is exactly what's going on here. Whether this is all the most elaborate work in recent wrestling history, or if MJF and Khan really have fallen out and the former is basically being paid to stay home. It's no secret MJF's current deal runs until 2024, he mentioned it multiple times during the build to his departure. If all of this is real, the most likely scenario is Khan will deny him his release and make MJF wait until 2024.
A tactic that could either work incredibly well for Khan or blow up in AEW's face if that's what's happening. Not seeing someone as good at what he does as MJF for two years and then him showing up on the opposition's show would be huge for WWE. Then again, there's an equal, if not slightly higher chance this is all part of the plan, and AEW has its own huge MJF return already on the cards far sooner than 2024.
