Prior to Lita showing up on SmackDown Friday night, and prior to her revealing that she thinks she's got one more run in her, Fightful is reporting that Lita was in talks for a major run in AEW.
Before making her WWE return, it sounds like AEW was interested in bringing the WWE Hall of Famer on board. Part of what might have hurried along her WWE return was the fact that AEW was willing to sign her, something WWE obviously didn't want.
With Lita's appearance on SmackDown, her entry into the Royal Rumble, and her hint that she might be coming back for more than just one match, it appears Lita is set for a WWE run that will include multiple matches and extend beyond the Rumble.

That Lita is going to wrestle more than one match shouldn't be a huge shock. She said recently on her Twitch channel that she was open to signing with AEW. Either she used that as leverage when talking with WWE or WWE caught wind of the comments and talks began about her doing more than just wrestling once. In a way, it sounds like something similar to how the Edge deal came together with WWE.
PWInsider reported that Lita’s inclusion on SmackDown was a last-minute development.
Can Lita Seriously Compete In Today's Women's Division?
How many matches Lita wrestles is not clear. That said, if she was looking at AEW, it's because she was likely looking at wrestling often. Their goal is to bring in talent who can go and Lita must feel she's got more than just a run in her but a legit one where she frequently wrestles.
That she's seemingly started a program with Charlotte Flair means WWE isn't going to shy away from seeing what she can do.
