Lita is one of the most recognizable and popular names in WWE history, helping to inspire a new generation of women’s wrestlers who would eventually make WWE a much better place for women’s wrestling. When looking back at her career, however, there is a significant sour point, and that came at the end of her WWE full-time run. She has made a few comebacks since then, but Lita deserves a proper, legitimate, final match before she sails off into the sunset.
Lita Set Her Herself Apart In WWE And Became A Legend
Although Lita made her debut in ECW, she was quickly signed by WWE and was just as quickly put onto TV, making her in-ring debut with the company just a few months after signing. With her knack for high-flying and flashy maneuvers, it was clear that she had a lot of talent that many others on the roster didn’t. However, it wasn’t until she was partnered up with Team Xtreme that her popularity soared to the moon. When aligned with Matt and Jeff Hardy, she would sport an alternative look, which would become iconic amongst cosplaying fans. Fans of all ages absolutely loved Lita, and it was easy to see why.

When other females on the roster were booked in awfully gimmicked matches made to expose women and disregard actual wrestling, Lita was taking huge bumps in TLC matches, mixing it up with the men, hitting moves on them, and taking moves from them, making her very anti-diva in the WWE sense of the word, and made her feel like someone special.
The rest of her career in WWE would see her involved in big matches and huge feuds. She would win the Women’s Championship on four occasions, compete in the first-ever women’s steel cage match, and embark on a legendary feud with Trish Stratus, competing in matches that still live in memory today as some of the best women’s matches of all time, especially considering the landscape of WWE during that era. Her partnership with Edge was also hugely significant, with their act running the show for quite some time.
Lita Was Humiliated On Her Way Out Of WWE
Lita was no stranger to poor booking, however. Being a woman in WWE at the time, many angles included romantic advances from men, with the worst being her pregnancy and miscarriage storyline with Kane. It was a truly horrific angle which still remains one of the most uncomfortable of all time. The real-life issues meshed with a storyline involving Matt Hardy and Edge was also tough to watch at times too, with Lita and Edge having a legitimate affair that was made light of on TV, and turned into a storyline with Lita’s ex-boyfriend, Matt Hardy.

The worst of Lita’s booking came at the end of her tenure. Her time with Edge had reduced her stock as an in-ring performer, with her feuds not having serious storylines. WWE made light of the real-life issues surrounding her personal life, turning her into the butt of several jokes and mistreatment. On her way out of the company, following a supposed retirement match, WWE had Cryme Tyme come out and sell off Lita’s personal items, including underwear, making a complete mockery out of Lita, and it was humiliating.
Lita Needs A Big Retirement Match To Fix The Issues Of The Past
Since then, Lita has returned a few times, competing in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble, in a tag match at the Evolution PPV, and a few other instances here and there. However, what Lita deserves isn’t just a cameo appearance, she deserves one final match to rectify the issues of her first retirement – WWE owes her no less than that at the very least. Sure, a Hall of Fame induction means a lot, but that farewell is still severely tainted.

Whether it be on one of the two nights of WrestleMania, or elsewhere during the year, Lita should have one big singles match against a top name, whether that be Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, or even others, having that one final big match on her resumé would be great. It should be in a similar fashion to Trish Stratus’ last match, where she battled Charlotte Flair in a brilliant match between a veteran and perhaps the most reliable female performer on the planet. Someone like Flair could help carry Lita, if she needs it due to being out of the ring for a while, to a great contest. WrestleMania looks to be a perfect place, especially with it now being a two-night event, allowing more matches to take place and get the time to breathe. WWE would be wise to strike while the interest in Lita has perked up again over recent weeks, with her returning for the 2022 Royal Rumble.
