WrestleMania 39 featured a surprising moment that got the crowd hyped, only before it turned horribly awkward. Shane McMahon had been absent from WWE for over a year, with the last time fans saw him being at the 2022 Royal Rumble, where after trying to book himself into lasting longer in the match, his own father, Vince McMahon, got so upset that he let his son go. At night two of WrestleMania 39 in 2023, Shane O'Mac made an unannounced return during a segment with The Miz and Snoop Dogg. The crowd went nuts to see one of their favorites back in the ring. It was an exciting moment indeed, that then went painfully wrong when Shane tore his quad shortly after getting physical with The Miz. It led to Snoop Dogg and The Miz having to improvise.
Shane McMahon hasn't been seen in WWE since. While he did give fans a small update showing himself rehabbing three weeks after the injury, it was his son, Declan McMahon, who gave a more indepth update on his father in an interview with Developmentally Speaking.
“His rehab is going very, very well," Declan said. "He’s gotten back to jogging, squatting, and he’s starting to work out again. It's getting kind of difficult for him to bend side to side. But his rehab is going really, really well. He’s making phenomenal progress. So the doctor said all the time that he's healing quicker than they thought, and when he tore it, he completely tore his quad tendon. That’s a very long, hard recovery, but he's been crushing rehab. He’s been doing his thing. And he hopefully will get back soon. And obviously, you want to see your dad be able to do what they love. My dad loves wrestling.” (h/t WrestlingNews.co)

Is There Still A Place For Shane McMahon In WWE?
While Declan McMahon, who is an athlete as well, as he plays Division 1 Football for the Indiana Hoosiers, could well be a WWE wrestler one day if that's a route he chooses, is there still a place for his father, Shane McMahon, in WWE? Shane has contributed greatly to the company. During the Attitude Era, he was constantly by his father's side, working great as both a face and a heel. He was also a talented part-time wrestler, taking major bumps in matches with Kurt Angle and The Undertaker to name a few.
Shane is almost 53-years-old now and hasn't been part of WWE much at all the past few years. On top of that, Endeavor now owns WWE. They've already shown that they favor Triple H over Vince McMahon for creative control, and with their moves away from the past (they reportedly don't even want The Rock to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania), would Endeavor want Shane McMahon in WWE in any capacity? While his entrance will always get a pop from fans, don't be surprised if that WrestleMania 39 injury is the last time we ever see Shane McMahon in WWE.
