Having a WrestleMania moment at WWE’s biggest show of the year can be career-defining for a superstar. 10 Becky Lynch’s Botched Pinfall, WrestleMania 35
WrestleMania 35 was significant for being the first time that women had main evented a 'Mania show, and there was a lot of hype in the build-up. Some of the sting was taken out of the match with the inclusion of Charlotte Flair, making it a triple threat, but the stakes were high with it being for both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles.
After a long show, the crowd were exhausted by the time the main event came around, taking a lot of the heat out the match. The finish saw Becky Lynch roll up Ronda Rousey out of nowhere, with the referee counting three even though Rousey’s shoulders weren’t down. It was a mess of a finish, and it took the fans off guard. Lynch’s celebration was nice, but the match and finish were lackluster.
9 Hulk Hogan Stands Tall As The American Hero, WrestleMania 7
On paper, there wasn’t too much wrong with Hulk Hogan vanquishing the dastardly heel of Sgt. Slaughter, and him winning was certainly the correct call. However, by 'Mania 7, it had become repetitive and tiresome to see Hogan stand tall in the main event with the WWE Title.
It was a predictable, slow match, which didn’t live up to previous main events, making it feel underwhelming and samey. Hogan winning without much issue was painful to see yet again.
8 John Cena Gets His Win Back From The Rock, WrestleMania 29
In a vacuum, the match between Cena and Rock was fine. However, this was an unnecessary rematch from the previous year, and fans did not want to see it at all.
It was a predictable main event which saw Cena presented like the underdog, even though he’d dominated the main event scene for several years by this point. Rock giving Cena respect and raising his hand was meant to be a passing of the torch moment, but Cena had been holding the torch for years at this stage, so it all felt pointless.
7 Lawrence Taylor Main Events, WrestleMania 6
For a non-wrestler competing in a wrestling match, Lawrence Taylor did a fantastic job, and he was great in the ring. However, the main event position for his match with Bam Bam Bigelow was a slap in the face to the rest of the wrestlers on the roster.

Seeing Taylor stand tall at the end of the night, when the likes of Undertaker, Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Bret Hart were on the show too, was a big mistake. The match exceeded expectations, but the positioning of this match on the card was all wrong.
6 Triple H Is The First Heel To Stand Tall, WrestleMania 16
WrestleMania is usually about the heroes of WWE getting their big wins, and this is even more so the case when it comes to the main event, and for 15 WrestleManias, a good guy had stood tall, having the last laugh as the show went off the air. The overbooked fatal four-way match for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 2000 deviated from this.
The champion walking into the match was Triple H, who was the biggest heel on the roster. In a match consisting of the two of the biggest faces in Mankind and The Rock, to see HHH stand tall was a huge shock, and not in a good way. Fans were gobsmacked, and it left the show feeling empty at the conclusion.
5 Roman Reigns Wins Without Any Issue, WrestleMania 32
Going into WrestleMania 32, the fans distaste for Roman Reigns was at all-time high, with his push being something that many didn’t want to see. A predictable win in the main event over the evil authority figure, Triple H, was almost too predictable for it to happen without some sort of swerve or turn.
However, Reigns won a long and plodding match, stood tall with the title, and the show ended. There was no heel turn, no post-match attack, and no saving grace to a win which fell completely flat.
4 Double Count-Out And Shenanigans, WrestleMania 27
Fans weren’t entirely on board with The Miz and John Cena main eventing WrestleMania, as it wasn’t the most high-profile match. To make matters worse, the match initially ended in a double count-out, which was unprecedented for Mania. This led to Mania host, The Rock, coming out, cutting a promo on a laptop, restarting the match, and then costing Cena the win.
This was a convoluted ending which was there only for advertising the following year’s WrestleMania. The fans weren’t into it, with The Rock’s involvement not popping the audience as much as WWE likely hoped.
3 Triple H Wins The Most Boring Main Event Of All Time, WrestleMania 25
Despite having one of the hottest and most personal rivalries going into the show, with Orton on his best run since being The Legend Killer, his match with Triple H was one of the most underwhelming in WrestleMania history.

This was a flat, slow match which didn’t have any sort of intensity that felt needed for their feud. Even with the slow match, a win for Orton made the most sense, given his momentum, but HHH won anyway, and that was that. It was incredibly boring and one of the least impactful endings of all time.
2 The Botched Run-In, WrestleMania 8
The fact that Hulk Hogan and Sycho Sid main evented this show over the WWE Title was a bad enough decision anyway, but coupled with the mess of an ending, this was a disaster. The debuting Papa Shango messed up the timing of a run in, which led to Sid having to kick out of the Hogan leg drop.
The finish ended up being changed on the fly, but the awkwardness was very apparent. A lackluster match with a disastrous botch resulted in one of the worst main events in the show’s history.
1 Hulk Hogan Takes All The Spotlight, WrestleMania 9
For too long, Hogan had dominated the main event scene, headlined numerous WrestleManias, and held the WWE Title several times. WrestleMania 9 signaled a change, with Bret Hart and Yokozuna battling in the main event.
The monster heel would emerge victorious, which was a shock, but it was a bold move to build a new name. However, Hogan would emerge from the back and get an impromptu title shot at Yokozuna, beating the monster in less than half a minute, standing tall to end the show. This was a complete disrespect to the likes of Hart and Yokozuna and was the clearest example of the hold and influence Hogan had over the business.
