The chair is the most commonly used weapon in professional wrestling, with a lot of talent opting to pick one up when needed. However, most of the time it is a standard shot to the back that wrestlers opt to use, which is something that fans react to, but don't necessarily remember.

However, over the years people in WWE have ended up getting creative with their use of a chair. Talent has managed to use the weapon to create special spots that have become iconic in their own right. Some of those have been one-off moments that looked brutal, while others are regular special moves that happen more often, all of which have the potential to create real damage.
10 Spine First
Normally when a chair is used it is the lip of it that is the focal point, with this typically hitting a big surface of the body to accept the blow. However, when Aleister Black and Adam Cole competed against each other it was taken to another level as the chairs were placed back to back.
This then led to Black throwing Cole spine first onto them as Cole would bend in half onto the chair. It was a brutal spot and seeing how Cole sold it only made the situation feel more intense.

Another brutal spot that has been used with a chair was created by Matt Hardy, who decided to enhance his own finishing move by bringing a steel chair into it. This is something that Hardy initially began doing against his brother when they collided at WrestleMania, putting Jeff's head inside the chair as he then hit a Twist Of Fate.

Another fun use of chairs that has started happening in recent times has seen piles of weapons be created inside the ring as a wrestler has then ended up being launched onto them. It always looks impactful because it simply provides no give, with the person receiving it taking a big bump.
Whether a wrestler is Suplexed onto the pile, pushed on, or slammed onto them, it is something that always looks good. It's also an idea that any wrestler can use, which is why it has become a frequent spot.

Chairs are typically used to hit people with because wrestlers always want to get an instant reaction from the fans who hear the noise. However, chairs can be used in other ways too, such as for enhancing submissions. That is something that Ronda Rousey showcased when she wrestled Charlotte Flair.
The former UFC star locked Flair's arm into the chair and then worked her Armbar submission, with the weapon providing extra leverage and pain to help make the submission look even better.
5 Eating A Chair
Randy Orton has always been pushed as a sick and twisted individual, being someone who will do whatever it takes to hurt his opponent. That was clear during his feud against Rey Mysterio when he decided to trap his head inside a chair and then launch him into the ring post.
Seeing Mysterio's head bounce off the ring post while being trapped was something that created a sickening sound, and that helped to create a memorable spot.

Anytime a move gets specifically named like this it is obviously one that people take seriously. Anytime a Pillmanizer is hit fans will react accordingly because it simply looks gnarly when the impact takes place. The move sees a wrestler get their ankle trapped inside a chair as someone else then stomps down on it.
This is something that all fans can appreciate because it looks devastating, and that is one of the reasons why the move has ended up becoming a popular one over time.
3 Lie, Cheat, & Steal
Not every move involving a chair has to be one that will cause physical pain, as Eddie Guerrero famously proved. He would use the weapon to con the referee, slamming it onto the mat making it sound like someone had been hit, only to throw it to his opponent and then fall to the floor.
This would convince the official to think it was Guerrero who had been hit, giving him a win via disqualification. It's a technique that many other wrestlers have opted to use over the years, and it never fails to get a reaction from the fans, who love the creativity.

Rob Van Dam is a very creative wrestler with his usual moveset being one that people love to see as he is always capable of pulling out something special. The Van Daminator is a great example of that, with RVD utilizing his love of strikes to use a chair in a completely different manner.

Placing someone's head onto a chair only to then drive another chair down on top of them is something that creates a sickening impact. It's a move that looks so devastating that it normally leads to the person being hit by it to take time off in the storyline, which only furthers why it is so beloved as a move.
