Vince McMahon is no stranger to controversy. During the summer of 2022, McMahon retired from his position of WWE CEO in the wake of several allegations of sexual misconduct and the revelation that McMahon had made his money payments to four women that totaled about $12 million.

Now, McMahon and WWE have yet another lawsuit to add to the pile. This one comes from a former WWE writer named Britney Abrahams.
Former WWE Writer Sues Vince McMahon For Offensive Scripts, Discrimination
Earlier today, Bloomberg Law broke the news that WWE is being sued by a former employee over racist script scenes. The writer, Britney Abrahams, began working for WWE in 2020.
[Abrahams] complained of racial and gender stereotypes in scripts, including ones instructing Belair to say “Uh-Uh! Don’t make me take off my earrings and beat your ass! " and Crews to speak with a “stereotypical and exaggerated Nigerian accent,” but was rebuffed, she said.
One of the most egregious claims in the lawsuit writes that a Muslim wrestler was written to reveal he was "behind the 9/11 attacks." Abrahams opposed these bigoted instances of writing and alleges she was fired in retaliation in April 2022.
Abrahams continued to opposed racist, sexist pitches, she said, and was fired in retaliation in April 2022. WWE fired her for taking with her a WrestleMania 38 branded chair, but the practice was allegedly a common practice that White male writers weren’t punished for.
She is seeking reinstatement, damages, declaratory judgment, and an injunction restraining defendants from engaging in such unlawful conduct.

Not only are these lawsuits an interruption to WWE's business operations, but they are also bound to do incredible damage to the company's reputation. Longtime wrestling fans know that WWE has a tendency to push the envelope and a long history of offensive stereotypes (i.e. the character Muhammad Hassan, DX dressing in blackface), but it's only recently that the company has started to face any major consequence.
