Early access for WWE 2K24 has begun, meaning if you own the Deluxe or 40 Years Of WrestleMania editions of the game, you can play it right now. Standard Edition owners can join them on March 8. Now the game is out there, more details about what has been included this year are being revealed. Early access players are progressing through its showcase mode celebrating the history of WrestleMania, and discovering the avoidance of using Vince McMahon extends beyond not including a playable version of the former chairman on the roster.
Blurred McMahon
Turns out 2K has also blurred the face of McMahon during certain cutscenes. Most notably during an infamous segment when McMahon added Charlotte Flair to the main event of WrestleMania 35, never really explaining why the addition made any logical sense. An interviewer with a blurred face speaking to Bobby Heenan earlier in 2K24's showcase mode also appears to be McMahon, shown at a time before casual fans knew he ran WWE.
WWE 2K24 Review: It's A New Game, Yes It Is
Time to finish your stories.Curiously, as pointed out by VGC, McMahon hasn't been blurred in footage used for The Rock and Stone Cold's WrestleMania X-Seven match. Playing a big role in the main event, cutscenes show McMahon marching to the ring, presumed to be thwarting Austin before eventually helping him win the match, without his face blurred. His in-game model is also present in that match even though he has been omitted from the roster for the first time in years.
The Janel Grant Lawsuit
While not explicitly stated, it's assumed McMahon isn't on the roster this year due to the filing of a lawsuit accusing the former TKO board member of some very serious acts. Former WWE employee Janel Grant claims she was sexually assaulted by McMahon, and others he trafficked her out to, repeatedly. Brock Lesnar has also been implicated in the lawsuit, despite not being named, and it's also assumed that's why he was removed from WWE 2K24's roster, although his two showcase matches remain.
McMahon isn't the only one blurred in WWE 2K24's showcase cutscenes. Various announcers, referees, and other employees from WWE's past are always blurred, presumably because 2K either can't get permission to include them in the game or simply can't be bothered to seek it out. To do it to McMahon at all, let alone at this early stage when the lawsuit is ongoing, feels like a little much. Regardless of what happens, erasing someone that integral to the company from WWE history will be almost impossible.
