The Revival, now known as The Revolt, has finally explained why exactly they asked to be released from their WWE contracts.
Three weeks ago, WWE released and furloughed more than 40 employees due to the difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak. However, right before that, The Revival, who are now known as The Revolt, were released from their contracts too. Not due to company cash flow problems, but because they had wanted out for a while.
There were a lot of fans who questioned why Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, now known as Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, wanted out of WWE. Since rumors started to swirl, the pair have been Tag Team Champions, and also enjoyed an extended run beating people up on SmackDown alongside Shane McMahon.

However, Harwood and Wheeler revealed on Talk Is Jericho this week that they decided to leave before any of that. "We'd said after this loop, let's wait until we're on the upswing so it doesn't look like we're only upset because we're losing," Wheeler revealed the two of them had agreed at the end of 2018. They knew a Tag Team Title run was in the offing, so thought if they asked to be released after that, it wouldn't just seem like sour grapes.
"The tag team division doesn't get respect, it doesn't get the time a lot of these teams deserve, and we want to take chances on ourselves," Wheeler went on to say. The two of them discussed how tag team wrestling is taken far more seriously at just about every other major wrestling promotion in the world right now. That they could allow their legacy to be nothing more than the work they did in NXT, or leave WWE and make something more of it.
Harwood admitted that he believes the two of them together are the greatest tag team in the world right now. That their talent was being wasted in WWE. The future is almost definitely bright for the two of them no matter where they go. Personally, we hope they land in AEW. That dream match against The Young Bucks has been a long time coming.
