Liv Morgan Gets Last Laugh On Deville

This week's Raw opened with confirmation that the WrestleMania Backlash tag team unification title match has, in fact, been changed. It closed with a six-woman tag team match that saw Liv Morgan finally get her moment in the sun. Also on the show, Finn Balor helped out AJ Styles, Mustafa Ali continued to have trouble with Theory and The Miz and Nikki A.S.H. is ready to stop pretending to be a superhero. Here are your winners and losers for Monday Night Raw, May 2, 2022:

Winner: Opening Segment

Roman Reigns and The Usos started out the show. After a slow saunter to the ring, and a few words by Paul Heyman, Reigns went to tell the crowd to acknowledge him, only to witness RK-Bro sneak into the ring from the darkness and take out the SmackDown tag team champions. Reigns was outnumbered, but even more so when Drew McIntyre's music hit and he joined Randy Orton and Riddle. RK-Bro left Reigns for McIntyre, but ultimately, the chaos involved all six men. The show broke to commercial break during the melee.

Considering WWE has quickly shifted gears and totally changed the main event for Sunday's pay-per-view, this segment did an effective job of setting the stage for the six-man tag match. It hasn't completely erased all the promotion WWE did to build a tag team unification match, but there's interest in seeing how this more chaotic match goes, likely with Drew and Roman fighting in a singles match down the line.

Winner: Kevin Owens and Alpha Academy vs. Street Profits and Ezekiel

After a quick backstage promo recorder earlier in the day was shown to set the match up, a six-man tag match was the first bout of the evening. There wasn't anything terribly wonderful about the match, nor was there anything bad. This was a fairly typical six-man bout that featured talented competitors who did their job effectively. Having Ezekiel pick up a loss here is an interesting decision, but it might serve to make him the sympathetic underdog.

The triple dropkick was one of the highlights of the match and a small thing that made Otis look strong, even if he was on the receiving end of the move. This was a good win for Alpha Academy, who have been used as babyface fodder in recent weeks.

Winner/Loser: Veer Mahaan Destroys Another Opponent

Seeing Veer continue to destroy opponents and then beat on them after the bell is fun and it harkens back to the old days of stars versus jobbers, but at some point, WWE is going to have to take the next step with the Veer Mahaan character and have him defeat someone more notable. This has been three-straight weeks where WWE has done the same thing and creative is running the risk of this growing old rather quickly.

Winner: AJ Styles Saved By Finn Balor

AJ Styles took on Damian Priest in an entertaining singles match and won via rollup. When Edge hopped in the ring to attack his scheduled opponent for WrestleMania Backlash, Finn Balor came out to make the save. Styles and Balor held up the Too Sweet sign and backed the heels off. One would expect that Balor will accompany Styles to the ring on Sunday for the pay-per-view, but is this the set-up for a new potential tag team or a swerve in which Balor joins Edge and Priest? Time will tell and either has the potential to be exciting.

If this Balor and Styles team stays together, they have the goods to be a legitimate tag team threat on the red brand.

Loser: Ali Loses Handicap Match

It's certainly not the end of the world that Mustafa Ali has already lost a match since his surprise return to WWE, especially since it's setting up a match against Ciampa and his loss came in a handicap contest. That said, it felt quick to put a stop to any match momentum he might have been building. So too, that he called The Miz a whiner after he basically bailed on WWE when they wouldn't release him from his contract comes across as a bit entitled. Obviously, going up against The Miz and Theory makes Ali the babyface, but WWE needs to tread carefully when it comes to hinting at Ali's backstage drama with WWE. The Miz setting it up so that Ali's music would stop during his entrance and that the mic wouldn't work was typical A-Lister heelish behavior.

What's intriguing is that reports are out there that Ciampa worked a Main Event tapings match tonight and played the babyface role in a bout versus Apollo Crews. It's not clear if that is meant to indicate anything but it's a situation potentially worth keeping an eye on.

Loser: Dana Brooke vs. Nikki A.S.H.

More goofy 24/7 action saw Nikki A.S.H. win the title prior to a singles match with Dana Brooke on Raw. Brooke ended up winning the title back and then trying to fend off everyone who wanted to steal the belt as she was leaving, including Reggie. Brooke shouted that she wanted a divorce and Reggie begged for her to reconsider. Backstage, a depressed Nikki was approached by Doudrop who made her return and asked if the Almost Superhero was ready to quit goofing around. Nikki said yes and it appears she'll be dumping the superhero gimmick.

Winner: Main Event Six-Woman Tag Match

WWE highlighted the Raw Women's Division in the main event of Raw. It wasn't a bad decision considering the match put on by the six competitors involved. Liv Morgan got the rub after picking up a pin over Sonya Deville who was stripped of her executive powers ahead of the match. WWE did a decent job of building three different rivalries in one match. Becky Lynch got her spots in with Asuka, Liv Morgan got some shots in on Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair and Deville had their moments.

Raw Match Results:
