Indian Superstar Kavita Devi has revealed she was not a part of WWE's latest batch of releases despite reports to the contrary.
WWE released a number of Superstars back in April. NXT then followed suit last month, letting go of Velveteen Dream and Jessamyn Duke, among others. Indian Superstar Kavita Devi was one of the more surprising names to be among those who had been let go. Even though many fans might not have seen Devi in action, she is an integral part of WWE's expansion into India.

Kavita Devi Is Still A WWE Superstar
Turns out Devi is still a part of that expansion. The Indian wrestler revealed to The Hindustan Times that despite reports, she was not among those released by NXT last month. Devi remains under contract with WWE, but her work for the company has changed for a number of reasons. She also explained why fans haven't seen her for a while.
"I have been back at home in India since January. My husband contracted COVID earlier this year and I needed to be here with my family," Devi explained. Devi added that she has also been recovering from an ACL injury, and WWE continues to support her throughout everything going on. While it sounds like she won't be returning to the US, her work with the company will continue.
An Ambassador For India
"I will still be involved as an ambassador for WWE in India. In the future that may mean I am involved in scouting new talent or with WWE Live events," she revealed. It sounds a little like Devi's role in India will be similar to the one Kairi Sane now occupies in Japan. Sane now lives back in her native country and while under the employ of WWE, she probably won't wrestle for the company anymore barring the odd surprise appearance on a tour.
Devi's explanation also reveals why she wasn't a part of WWE's Superstar Spectacle earlier this year. The show was the official launch of WWE's expansion into the Indian market, but since it took place in the US and in January, Devi would have been at home with her family at the time. It remains unclear what WWE's next steps will be when it comes to India. The pandemic has likely derailed any plans it previously had.
