WWE 2K22 launched earlier this year, ushering in a new era of video games for the series two and a half years on from the disastrous launch of WWE 2K20. As for what's next, neither WWE nor 2K has hinted at when 2K23 will launch, or even if there will be a 2K23 at all. There's an outside chance the companies could opt for one game every two years from now on, although a report circulating today suggests otherwise.
Superstars Taping A WWE 2K23 Commercial
According to PWInsider, a number of Superstars have been in Los Angeles recently taping for the debut WWE 2K23 commercial. Among the wrestlers present for the taping are Rey and Dominik Mysterio, Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, and perhaps most notable of all, Cody Rhodes. Not only because he hinted at being on the cover back in May, but that may be further evidence he is nearing an in-ring return.

Rhodes' inclusion in potential WWE 2K23 marketing material will also confirm he'll be in the game, something that was probably a given for most people. What makes The American Nightmare's inclusion interesting is apparently, he will still be a member of the AEW Fight Forever roster. There was also a push to have him added to WWE 2K22 as DLC following his WrestleMania return, but that hope didn't become a reality.
2023 Will Be Big For Wrestling Games
Reports that there really is going to be a WWE 2K23 means 2023 could be a very big year for wrestling games. The aforementioned Fight Forever will almost definitely launch next year, probably a lot sooner than WWE's next offering. Hopefully that will be the case for AEW as the last thing it will want when launching its first game is competition from a promotion that has been making video games for the past three decades or more.
Even though there seemingly is going to be a WWE 2K23, that there hasn't been a push to get a new game out 12 months after the highly praised 2K22 is evidence WWE 2K has learned from its mistakes. That it's better to make a good game that launches more than a year later than rush a bad one out to hit that annual target. It also serves as evidence that WWE won't be following in AEW's footsteps and providing Fight Forever players with additions and updates rather than a new game every 18 months or so.
