If Hiroshi Tanahashi can beat Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 14, Le Champion has agreed to put his AEW Title on the line in a rematch.

It seems hard to believe at this point, but this time last year AEW didn't exist. Well, at least not in the eyes of the fans. All of the pieces had been put in place for the promotion to be officially revealed to the world on New Year's Day. Prior to AEW entering the fray, it's probably fair to say that New Japan and Ring of Honor were the next biggest wrestling companies after WWE.

It's hard to say which of the companies was the bigger deal as the two were working in tandem more and more. However, the introduction of AEW ruined that somewhat. Most of NJPW's top foreign talent are now AEW wrestlers. Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega. However, one managed to work an NJPW clause into his AEW contract.

That man is Chris Jericho. Despite being under contract with AEW, and holding the promotion's World Championship, Jericho will compete at Wrestle Kingdom 14 on January 4, 2020. This one is arguably Jericho's biggest NJPW match to date. A showdown with Hiroshi Tanahashi. Since it's a NJPW match, Jericho's title will not be on the line, but there's now a catch.

During a recent interview, Tanahashi stated that it only seemed fair that should he beat Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom, the AEW Title should be on the line in a rematch. What started out as a fun, throw away comment has now become something much more serious. Le Champion has agreed to those terms, revealing on Instagram that he spoke to AEW chairman Tony Khan who is also on board with the idea.

Like many of you reading this right now, that got our creative wheels turning. Now, we're hoping Jericho loses to Tanahashi on January 4. That way, we could see one of NJPW's biggest stars make an appearance for AEW and maybe even see the beginnings of a working relationship between the two companies. As for when and where that rematch would take place, perhaps it could be as soon as AEW Revolution on February 29, 2020.
