Adam Cole revealed on Twitter that he is now the longest reigning NXT Champion of all time, and it doesn't seem like he'll be losing the title any time soon.

WWE Superstars who have passed through NXT don't necessarily need to win the black and gold brand's World Title to enjoy success on the main roster. Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, and Braun Strowman are just a few examples of NXT alumni who didn't need the brand's title to move on and succeed.

There are plenty of examples to suggest winning the NXT Title definitely doesn't hurt, though. Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens all held the gold while in NXT. In fact, Balor held it for longer than anyone else so far. That was until this week when the current champion set a new record.

Adam Cole took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal he is now the longest reigning NXT Champion of all time. According to Wikipedia, today (Friday) marks the 292nd day of Cole's reign which means he is currently equal with Balor's record. The leader of the Undisputed ERA will actually break the record on Saturday, March 21, 2020. Then again, we think we trust Cole a little more than we trust Wikipedia.

Cole won the title last year at NXT TakeOver XXV by beating Johnny Gargano in a match of the year candidate. As for when Cole's record breaking title reign will be threatened, considering the current landscape, that might be a long way off. Judging by the video package-centric episode of NXT fans got this week, Cole won't have to defend that title for a long time.

There are rumors that NXT TakeOver: Tampa, which was supposed to take place over WrestleMania weekend, will now take place the Wednesday before. Or the matches planned for that show will be scattered across multiple episodes of NXT. While not officially announced, it felt as if WWE was building to an NXT Title match between Cole and Velevteen Dream. Should that happen, fans might see Cole's epic reign come to an end sooner than they first thought.
